More than a century ago, the Audubon Society began a program to conduct a census of early-winter bird census across the United States, Canada, and many other countries. It is one of the largest and longest-running citizen scientist project.
The bird counts are conducted between December 14 thru January 5, each season. The count in your area will occur on only one day during this period, but you can participate in as many counts as you wish.
The counts are held in designated areas around the county in established 15-mile wide diameter circle. (A map of these areas can be found at https://audubon.maps.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.html?appid=fadfb421e95f4949bde20c29a38228bd.) In each of these areas, there is a count coordinator who organizes the count and collects the tallies. Part of Murrysville, Export, and Delmont fall within one of these circles (Bushy Run S.P.).
